David Kracov's "I Love Manga" is an enthralling 3D metal wall sculpture that pays homage to the vibrancy of Japanese pop culture. Shaped into the universal symbol of love, this heart is meticulously assembled from an array of Murakami flowers, signature elements known for their smiling faces, and bold, playful patterns synonymous with Takashi Murakami's influential work. Each petal bursts with color and energy, symbolizing the joy and exuberance found within the pages of manga and the broader realm of contemporary art it inspires. Kracov's metal artistry adds a tangible depth and shadow to the work, transforming the flat iconic flowers into a dynamic and textural experience. Measuring over a meter in width, "I Love Manga" is not just a tribute to the genre but a celebration of the crossover where traditional art forms and modern subcultures meet, creating a visual dialogue that resonates with fans across the globe.
Born in Boston, David Kracov studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and began his career in animation with the Brad Pitt feature, ‘Cool World.’ David went on to work with Disney Animation, Don Bluth Animation, Rich Animation, as well as several other studios, before beginning his solo work as a sculptor and painter. Kracov’s vibrant color palette shows up in his unique steel wall sculptures that begin with hundreds of small sketches. David’s meticulous steel work along with his scrutinizing attention to detail allows his sculptures to take on a life of their own, and his famous butterflies take flight. David’s playful and creative works are each a testament to his steady hand and wonderfully unique artistic ideas. His work brings joy and humor to pop art.
